Let’s add a handmade touch to your home decor by making this sweet Spring Bouquet Felt Ornament, originally made by our community member, Albion (@albiongould), together! Follow along as we break down the process into simple steps, suitable for crafters of all skill levels.
Supplies you need:
- Magic Meadow Box exclusive embellishments and the flower-shaped container of BGM Box exclusives
- Cream felt
- Matching cream embroidery floss
- Green embroidery floss
- Poly-fil Fiber Fill
- Small embroidery needle that can fit through the beads
- Scissors
- Washable fabric pen, or erasable pen or pencil
Step 1. Trace and cut
Begin by tracing the flower-shaped container twice onto the cream felt using a washable fabric pen. Carefully cut out the felt flowers along the traced lines. These will serve as the base for your flower embellishments.
Step 2. Stitch flowers
Using the Magic Meadow Box exclusive embellishments, select your desired sequins and beads to create your flowers. Thread your small embroidery needle with one strand of matching floss and start stitching the sequins and beads onto one piece of felt. Layer them to create different combinations of flowers, stitching up from the bottom through all the pieces, then to one side, back through the middle and finally to another side. Continue this process, experimenting with various combinations to create a rough, bouquet shape. Fill in any gaps with single sequins as needed.
Step 3. Create stems
Once you’re satisfied with the amount of flowers, switch to the green floss, this time using two strands. Stitch simple stems onto the felt, starting from the base of the flowers and extending downwards.
Step 4. Assemble ornament
Take a second piece of felt and align it with the stitched piece, sandwiching the flowers between them. Using the matching floss (two strands), stitch around the edges to close up the flower, following the shape. Leave two petals open. Before closing completely, lightly stuff a bit of Poly-fil Fiber Fill inside to give the flower dimension. Be careful not to overstuff. Finish stitching to edge neatly, then tie and trim the floss.
Step 5. Add loop
To turn your flower into an ornament, create a simple loop at the top using the matching floss. Stitch it securely in place, ensuring it’s strong enough to hold your ornament.
You've crafted your very own Spring Bouquet Felt Ornament, perfect for celebrating the beauty of spring! Whether it hangs on your door wreath, adorns your festive table setting, or is shared with a friend, its handmade beauty will surely be appreciated.
